Speedometer Repair & Instrument Cluster

A malfunctioning speedometer is more than an annoyance — it's a safety and legal liability, and a failed vehicle speed sensor can also cause erratic transmission shifting, cruise control failure, and ABS warning lights. At Chloe's Auto Repair & Tire, we diagnose and repair all types of speedometer and instrument cluster problems, from electronic vehicle speed sensors to mechanical cables and digital cluster issues on all makes and models. Most speed sensor and cluster repairs are completed same-day with a full road test to verify accuracy.

Professional Speedometer Repair — What We Fix

When your speedometer stops working, reads inaccurately, or your gauges are acting erratically, it's more than an inconvenience — it's a safety issue and can result in speeding tickets. At Chloe's Auto Repair & Tire, we diagnose and repair all types of speedometer and instrument cluster problems. Modern vehicles use electronic speed sensors and digital instrument clusters, while older vehicles may use mechanical speedometer cables. Our technicians are experienced with both and use professional diagnostic tools to pinpoint the exact cause — whether it's a faulty vehicle speed sensor (VSS), a wiring issue, a failed instrument cluster, or a damaged speedometer cable. We also handle related gauge problems including tachometer, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, and odometer issues.

Frequently Asked Questions

The most common cause is a failed vehicle speed sensor (VSS). Other causes include wiring problems, a faulty instrument cluster, or on older vehicles, a broken speedometer cable. Our diagnostic process pinpoints the exact cause so you're not paying for unnecessary parts.
Yes — your transmission relies on the vehicle speed sensor to determine when to shift gears. A faulty VSS can cause harsh shifting, delayed shifts, or the transmission staying stuck in one gear (limp mode). Fixing the speed sensor often resolves transmission shifting complaints.
Cost varies depending on the cause. A speed sensor replacement is typically the most affordable fix. Instrument cluster repair or replacement costs more due to parts and labor. We always diagnose first and give you a detailed estimate before doing any work.
Yes, we work on both analog (needle-based) and digital instrument clusters. Depending on the issue, we may be able to repair the existing cluster or source a quality replacement. We'll explain your options and pricing before proceeding.
