The spark plug ignites the compressed air/fuel mixture, resulting in controlled combustion. This forces the engine piston down, thereby generating power. The exhaust stroke expels the burned gases. This cyclic process turns the crankshaft, transferring power to the wheels.
A diesel engine works by compressing air in the combustion chamber, which raises its temperature. Fuel is then injected into the superheated air, causing spontaneous ignition due to the high heat. This combustion drives the piston down, converting energy into mechanical power. Unlike a gasoline engine, a diesel engine uses compression ignition rather than spark plugs.
